In the weeks following the shocking breakup of beloved power couple Brangelina, it seems that Hollywood couples are forever doomed, right?
Although relationships that bloom in the limelight may all seem destined to fizzle out (or explode) eventually, some truly leave hope for the rest of us. After all, if our most beautiful, beloved and wealthy couples can’t make it…what hope does that leave for the rest of us?
These are the celebrity couples that have stood the test of time (at least for now anyway.)
Michael J Fox & Tracy Pollan
Married in July 1988, this couple still stands strong. In an interview last year, Pollen says the secret to their marriage’s longevity is “giving each other the benefit of the doubt.” It’s not always easy, however. She also said “You just have [to have] the perspective that you’re behind each other’s back – and it helps if you can make each other laugh.”
Maybe laughter is this power couples best medicine?
Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson
These “Bosom Buddies” stars met on set and made things official in 1988 as well. The duo have two sounds together and have called tabloid stories of false divorce filings “lies we could not put up with any longer.” Star and Enquirer magazine have even retracted articles with false claims about trouble in this team’s paradise.
Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick
Since their marriage in 1997 (and even back to when they first sparked an interest in each other in 1991), Parker and Broderick have had a blessed long term romance in the public eye. Although they have faced some ups and downs, they seem to have come out on top. Although SJP will soon be starring in a new HBO series called “Divorce,” it appears that her personal life couldn’t be more different.
In 1994 Pinkett auditioned for the role of her future hubby’s characters girlfriend. Although she didn’t land that…she would go on to become his wife three years later. Although the couple has admitted to seeking help through couple counseling, they still say they are committed.
Bono & Ali Hewson
Although Bono admitted it would “have been sensible” to break from Hewson, that they never wanted to be “sensible.” Their daughter Eve says her famed parents were “way more fun than me.” Their marriage began August 1982 and may be able to credit their long-time love to the wife’s private lifestyle.
Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
This couple made in country heaven has been running strong for 20 years. In fact, Hill posted a shirtless photo of her hubby earlier this week washing her car with the caption “yes, baby, scrub those tires.” Definitely safe to say that these two are the hottest coupe in the country music scene.
Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell
Although surprisingly never actually married, Hawn and Russell have remained strong in their relationship. Hawn says the key to their success was that they never got married. Since they began their romance in 1983, they have shared four children including Kate Hudson and have starred in three movies together.
