Johnny Depp in an interview for The Daily Mail claimed that he wants to purchase the national historic landmark and give it away as a gift to the Indian people.
The place where the Wounded Knee massacre happened is on sale and Depp is ready to spend millions to get it. He doesn’t want to keep it for himself, but to give it to those who should have got the land in the first place. With this action he will make right what went wrong back in the 1890.
According to Depp the site is very sacred ground and the Sioux experienced a lot of barbarity there. In the 1970s the Site became a legal issue between the Federal government and the people who should own the land. Due to the importance of the Site of Wounded Knee to the Sioux culture, Depp is willing to buy the land and give it back, wondering why the government haven’t done that already.
Many are wondering if Depp’s role of Tonto in the The Lone Ranger inspired him to do such a generous thing. No matter what inspired him, this kind of activism will be acknowledged by everyone.
Depp seems like he has planned everything out, and with price for the land of $3.9 million there are not many issues that can keep him away from his commitment.
He says that he is doing the best he can to make this happen. Adding that it is sad the way people were pushed on that land and massacred there.
And after at least 20 American solders were awarded for their role in the massacre with the Medal of Honor and the public is more familiar with the history the only thing left to do is do what is right and move forward.
