Why Is Duchess Meghan’s Baby Bump So High Up?
The Duchess of Sussex stepped out in public for her last assignment of the year before Christmas break.
Meghan Markle was out visiting Brinsworth House, a nursing and care home for British entertainers run by the Royal Variety Charity. Meghan gave a tour of the home and was part of some craft making. The Duchess proudly showed off her growing belly, among her fellow actors, as she discussed with them and got into the festive spirit. Meghan is due in spring, so we can expect an even bigger baby bump for the next time we see her.
“Very good.”- she replied when asked how she was by a resident. “Very pregnant.”- after pausing, and putting her hand on her belly.
Why is the baby bump so high though?
Old tales tell us carrying a baby high or low on your body tells the baby’s sex, which in this case would mean she is carrying a baby girl. This is only a myth though.
“It’s clear to say that a child’s genitals have nothing to do with how the woman’s body looks when she is pregnant. The way a woman carries a baby has more to do with the size of the baby.”-the Vice President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Professor Steve Robson, told the Huffington Post.
“If the baby is smaller, it is more likely to be lower in the pelvis. So a baby that is larger than average is more likely to be higher, a smaller baby will be lower,”-the professor added.
Another cause of the high baby bump could be the mother’s body.
“When a woman carries high, her abdominal muscles are often in good shape, while lax muscles from age, previous pregnancies or decreased fitness can cause her to carry low.”-said John Thoppil, MD, assistant clinical professor of OB-GYN at Texas A&M University College of Medicine.
We know Meghan likes doing yoga and watches her health, so her abs might be one of the reasons her baby bump is higher than usual.
That’s probably the last sight we’ll get of the growing baby bump this year.
