Prince Charles Played A Part In The Best Part Of The Royal Wedding

He helped make that “Stand By Me” performance happen on Harry and Meghan’s big day.

A week has passed from the royal wedding and people can’t stop talking about The Kingdom Choir’s performance of “Stand By Me” at the wedding. The gospel choir’s rendition of Ben E. King’s ’60s classic was the best part of the entire ceremony and a prime example of how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to blend their cultures in their marriage ceremony.

But, in a surprising turn of events, it was actually Prince Charles who suggested the group perform.   In this week’s wedding-themed episode of On Heir, a royals-themed podcast by reporters Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie, Andrews revealed Charles’s involvement in selecting the music for the service.

“Apparently [The Kingdom Choir] was Charles’s choice, apparently Charles recommended them to Harry and Meghan, which I was surprised at. I was told that by one of Charles’s member of staff yesterday” revealed Andrews.

“I thought that Harry and Meghan had chosen all the music personally, but you got the feeling that Charles really helped them with the service,” she continued, “because music is something that he’s very knowledgeable in.”

It is still not clear how Charles knew about the group, which is based in the South-East of England, or who made the ask in the end, but in a statement before the wedding, choir director Karen Gibson shared that the group was “honoured” and “very excited” to be part of the celebration.

“The Kingdom Choir is truly honored to be invited to sing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Markle, and very excited to be taking part in such a historic moment,” she said.

“It will be a moment that we will always treasure, and we’d like to take the opportunity to wish the couple all the very best for their coming union.”
