This Five Words Charles Told Diana And Caused Their Marriage To Break

When the news about Charles and Diana’s separation was announced, plenty of rumors started spreading about what was the reason. And apparently, it all started with a passing comment made by Prince Charles.

Right before Diana gave birth to Harry she and Charles were “very, very close to each other.” However, one moment changed it all.

According to Andrew Morton’s book on Diana’s life, Diana: Her True Story, the late princess revealed the heart-breaking sentence Charles said to her when Harry was born was: “Oh God, it’s a boy.”

Princess Diana revealed in a 1991 interview: “Then, suddenly, as Harry was born, it just went bang, our marriage. The whole thing went down the drain,” Diana explained.

Despite Charles insisting he was just “joking”, Diana was very much hurt by his comment.

But Charles didn’t stop. His second comment was: ‘And he’s even got red hair.’

And then: “Something inside me closed off,” Diana revealed.

Diana also explained that she hid Harry’s gender from Charles as she knew he was desperate to have a girl.

According to the book, the couple had been in “total darkness” between the births of William and Harry and she had blotted it out as it was “such pain”.

“However, Harry appeared by a miracle,” she said.

What’s worse, at Harry’s christening in December, Charles reportedly told Diana’s mother: “We were so disappointed — we thought it would be a girl.”

Harry would have been around the age of seven at the time of Diana interviews. She said of the young prince: “Harry was a complete joy and is actually closer to his father than perhaps William at the moment.”

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Charles also told well-wishers in 2014 that he “hoped” Prince William and Kate Middleton’s second baby “will be a girl this time”.
