The CEO of Republic has asked Prince William and Kate to renounce their royal titles. Republic is a British republican pressure group advocating the replacement of the United Kingdom’s monarchy with a republic
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Graham Smith said “I think Kate and William should renounce their royal titles.Ultimately, Queen Elizabeth II should be the last monarch.”
“This whole notion that this guy is going to do very little for the next 20 or 30 years and then become our head of state is nonsense.
“I think that increasing numbers of people will see it as nonsense.
“He has an opportunity to come out and say ‘maybe there should be a vote to decide who replaces my grandmother’.
“But he is not going to do that because he has bought into the whole nonsense of the monarchy.”
However, Richard Fitzwilliams, royal commentator supports Prince William to succeed as King one day.
“William is heir to the throne and Kate will one day be Queen Consort,” he told.
“The royal duties William and Kate undertake are meaningful and an excellent preparation for kingship.
“He has done important work to open up debate on mental health issues. And he has also launched the Earthshot Prize to help the campaign to save the environment.
“She has done a great deal for children’s issues, especially those linked to young children, most recently a survey to help under-fives.”
“Duty is pivotal to members of the royal family.
“The Queen has been dedicated to it throughout her life.
“William and Kate will, I am sure, be ideal for the tasks that face them, on current showing it certainly seems that way.”
