Earlier this week, Duchess Kate joined Prince William for the inaugural awards ceremony of his Earthshot Prize, which he founded in 2018 to find inspiring and innovative solutions to environmental challenges from around the world.
And on Wednesday, their office shared a series of touching behind-the-scenes photos from the big night. And one photo especially, shows off the couple’s adorable bond, with Kate supportively putting her arm around her husband William and leans in close to talk. Meanwhile, Prince William is captured looking sweetly at his wife.
“Behind the scenes at the first ever @EarthshotPrize Awards,” the couple’s Instagram page captioned the pics.
Royal photographer Chris Jackson revealed on his Instagram account how he the touching photos from the Earthshot Prize Awards on Sunday at Alexandra Palace.
“Some of you may have noticed I was a little quiet after the Earthshot awards…
“This was because I had a fantastic opportunity to shoot “behind the scenes” with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the groundbreaking environmental initiative that will do a huge amount to change the narrative over the next few years.
“It was special to witness the passion and energy that went into this event from close quarters and performances from talented artists such as @teddysphotos @ksi and @coldplay.
“I think these pictures illustrate some the depth of feeling throughout the event.”
Photographer Chris told People magazine that the Duchess “obviously felt really proud with what William had achieved with this project. It was a really special evening.”
For the glam event, Duchess Kate recycled her lilac Alexander McQueen gown with a gold beaded waistband. Prince William opted for a dark green velvet blazer paired with black trousers and a black turtleneck.
This year’s Earthshot categories were: “clean air”,” protect and restore nature”, “revive our oceans”, “build a waste-free world”, and “fix our climate.” Winners were granted $1.4 million each to develop further solutions to combat climate change.
Kate presented the winning award in the protect and restore nature category to the government of Costa Rica: “Nature is vital to us all. A thriving natural world, regulates our planet, nurtures our physical and mental health and helps feed our families.
“But for too long, we’ve neglected our wild spaces and now we’re facing a number of tipping points.
“If we don’t act now, we will permanently destabilise our planet and we will rob our children of the future they deserve.”
