Duchess Meghan Could Receive A New Title
The Duchess of Sussex could be given a new title after being shortlisted for a very coveted new title.
The former “Suits” star gave up her life as a Hollywood actress when she decided to marry Prince Harry last May. The couples royal wedding was watched by millions around the world and renewed interest in the British Monarchy. It was then when she was given the title Duchess of Sussex, officially joining the British Royal Family. She even received her own crest to accompany her brand-new royal title after marrying the son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Meghan chose two golden rays across a blue background to represent the Californian sunshine and the Pacific Ocean off the coast of her home state.
But now the Duchess has been nominated for a new title: Time Person of the Year for 2018.
The last 12 months of her life have been quite the ride. She married one of the most eligible bachelors in the world and then created an award-winning cookbook that raises money for the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
Before her life as a royal family member, Meghan, inspired by strong women like Princess Diana, was a known advocate for women’s rights and positioned herself as an activist. She was nominated for the Choice Style Icon award at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles and even starred in a UN Women campaign, filmed back in 2015.
But now, Meghan’s competition is harder than ever. From the US President Donald Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the murdered Saudi Arabian Journalist Jamal Khashoggi – who are all competing for the renowned title, which began in 1927 before it was renamed back in 1999.
Previous winners of Time Person of Year include Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, Martin Luther King in 1963, George H. W. Bush in 1990, Vladimir Putin in 2007, Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016.
The 2018 Person of the Year will be announced on Tuesday on the NBC network’s Today show.
