A Global Effect: How Princess Charlotte Already Has So Much Influence

Princess Charlotte is only six years old yet influencing thousands.

Reports of the most popular baby names in Houston have been released by the Houston Health Department, and there are some interesting changes.

Last year Olivia was the number 1 name bestowed on girls in Houston, but this year it has been dethroned by none other than Charlotte. In 2020 only 174 girls were named Charlotte in Houston, with that number jumping to 354 for 2021, making the leap from 10th place to 1st in one year.

One reason for this significant rise in popularity of the name is, no doubt, connected to the also rising popularity of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The six-year-old royal has captured the hearts of people from all over the world with her bubbly and fun-loving personality, making her a fan favourite among royal fans. We have heard of the Kate effect, but it seems that Princess Charlotte is following in her mother’s footsteps of influence, with the potential to even surpass her someday.

Her brothers seem to not have the same way as their sister, as neither George nor Louis are in the top ten for most popular boy names in Houston. The number one for boys has remained Liam, with 491 babies being given that name, continuing its popularity among parents in the last few years.

“We certainly have a lot of clients with baby boys named Liam,” said Gabriela Gerhart, founder and president of the Motherhood Center, which provides information and support for expecting and new parents.

Liam, she said, means strong-willed and protector, while at the same time being a more hip and modern variation of the more traditional William. Hey, wasn’t there a royal with that name?.

One interesting trend that keeps repeating all over the world is the rotation of names, as none of the names that were popular in the last 60 years is popular now, up until some time passes and they make a comeback.

Or in the case of the royal family, we keep repeating and honouring the same old names they have had since the beginning of the monarchy. Can’t wait for His Royal Highness Kyle in the future.
