Meghan Received A Surprise Birthday Cake
On August 4th, Meghan Markle celebrated her second birthday as a royal and the Duchess of Sussex celebrated her 38th birthday with a quiet day at home in Frogmore Cottage with her husband and son instead of a lavish party. For her birthday Prince Harry went to Instagram and shared a heartfelt post dedicated to his wife, with the caption reading: “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure! Love, H.”
Despite it being quite a low-key affair, her birthday cake was everything but, impressing royal fans. The cake for the Duchess was specially made by the Luminary Bakery in east London, it has been confirmed. This is the same bakery that the Duchess praised in her guest-edited issue of Vogue that will release in September. Meghan had even written a touching note in which she thanks the Stoke Newington-based bakery for the work they do.
Part of it read: “The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there, you all embody what it means to be ‘forces for change’. Thank you for being part of this special project.”
And the east London bakery does much more than bake some stunning cakes, they are also on the mission of empowering some of London’s most vulnerable women by lifting them out of poverty and violence. This social enterprise gets disadvantaged women in London back on their feet, offering them employment opportunities and invaluable culinary skills-all while making some bomb-a** cakes.
Popular for their intricately crafted cakes that have more in common with a work of art rather than a tasty treat, the bakery’s Instagram is filled with photos of the works of art. Luminary Bakery also caters to weddings and parties, as well as having a cafe on-site, which is nothing but chic, where people with a sweet tooth can try one of their miniature cakes and sweets.
On the menu, they have vegan peanut butter cookies, salted caramel brownies and fresh bread, which should be enough to convince anyone to take a trip east. They have damn good toasties as well.
