Prince William Announces Solo Trip This Autumn

Prince William has an upcoming trip to the United States – without his Duchess!

William will be in New York City on September 21 – his first time visiting the States since his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan first moved there – the Duke will be attending an Earthshot Prize innovation summit leading up to the awards ceremony.

It is, however, unlikely that Prince William will make the journey from coast to coast, in the United States to visit Harry, or that they will meet earlier on in September when the Sussexes will be in the UK.

The innovation summit will take place during NYC Climate Week and the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly, and will be co-hoasted by the Earthshot team and Bloomberg Philanthropy.

The Duke of Cambridge is set to deliver a speech at the summit, which will be attended by the winners and finalists from last year’s Awards Ceremony, The Earthshot Prize Global Alliance network, heads of state, global business leaders and philanthropists.

The goals of the summit, which is held in the lead up for this years’ Earthshot Award Ceremony which will be held in Boston in December, is to amplify The Earthshot Prize’s call to speed up efforts to repair the planet.

UN Secretary-General’s special envoy on climate ambition and solutions and billionaire businessman Michael Bloomberg, said: “Accelerating the world’s climate progress requires us to take urgent, ambitious action from every angle.

“As global leaders get set to gather in New York, the Bloomberg team is working with our partners Prince William and The Earthshot Prize to showcase the most innovative climate solutions and help them spread more quickly.”

Chief executive of EarthshotHannah Jones, added: “Through a powerful discussion on collective action and investment in game-changing innovations, we will ask the brightest minds to turn urgent optimism into action.”

Earthshot, based on JFK’s Moonshot, aims to foster innovative solutions to restore our planet, awarding £1million in prize money to the winners in five categories or Earthshots – Protect And Restore Nature; Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans; Build A Waste-Free World; and Fix Our Climate – projects which included restoring coral reefs, redistributing unwanted food to the disadvantaged and a project battling the issues contributing to air pollution in India.

The Earthshot Prize – which was founded by William and his Royal Foundation in 2020, and in July this year, the project became an independent charity, with William now its president – will be held in Boston this year, with The John F Kennedy Library Foundation, alongside the City of Boston and its mayor Michelle Wu its host partners.
