William And Kate Announced The Name Of Their Third Baby

After 4 days since the birth of William and Kate’s second son they announced his name. Kensington Palace announced the name of the new royal baby on Twitter, today, shortly after 11am.

The royal baby name is Louis Arthur Charles, Kensington Palace announced on Twitter Friday. His royal title will be His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

The tweet says: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

Louis Arthur Charles is the third child for William and Kate, who welcomed a son, Prince George, in 2013 and a daughter, Princess Charlotte, in 2015. The odds on Louis were 33/1, making the royal baby name a somewhat surprising choice.

Louis is one of Prince George’s and Prince William’s middle names. Also the name honors Prince Charles’ great-uncle, Earl Mountbatten. He was killed by the IRA in 1979. Louis is French and means ‘famous warrior’ from the Old German ‘Chlodovech’.

Arthur is an Italian name that means noble and courageous. It is one of William’s and Charle’s middle names.

The name Charles is clearly a tribute to William’s father, Prince Charles Philip Arthur George.

The couple broke tradition because it took them four days to announce the name of their third child. (It took them only two days to announce the names of Prince George and Princess Charlotte).

When Prince William was born, Diana and Charles waited until seven days after his birth to announce his name. While the Queen and Prince Philip waited 30 days before they announced the name of Prince Charles in 1948.

Kate Middleton gave birth to her third child at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital on Monday. A statement from Kensington Palace read: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”
