For Queen Elizabeth’s 96th birthday, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared two touching photos accompanied by a personal message from them. The first photo was of William and Kate with the Queen as they showed her around the Duchess’s Back to Nature Garden at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.
The other photo was even sweeter, as it showed the monarch alongside her late husband Prince Philip posing with seven of their great-grandchildren. All three Cambridge children are there, with Prince Louis sitting in the lap of the Queen, Princess Charlotte sitting in between her two great-grandparents, and Prince George standing to the side.
Behind the sofa is Savannah Philips, while her sister Isla is located alongside her cousins, Mia and Lena Tindall, Zara Tindall’s children.
This photograph, which gives us a rare more relaxed version of the two senior royals, was taken at Balmoral Castle in 2018, with the one behind the camera being none other than Kate.
The message accompanying the two photographs read: “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today! An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, it’s particularly special to be celebrating in this #PlatinumJubilee year.”
The Palace also shared a photograph as a way of marking the monarch’s birthday, with theirs being of the Queen enjoying the spring sunshine as she holds the reins of two of her beloved ponies.
On Wednesday, she was flown by helicopter to Sandringham, where she will be celebrating her milestone birthday in private. The monarch is staying at Wood Farm, the modest cottage that the Duke of Edinburgh made his retirement base in his final years.
The royal couple had spent hundreds of happy weekends together there, so no doubt now she will be reflecting and looking back at all the good times and sweet memories she has.
