Prince William And Kate Step Out For Top Gun: Maverick Premiere

Prince William and Kate Middleton took to the red carpet for the U.K. premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in London’s Leicester Square this Thursday evening, joining the main star of the movie Tom Cruise.

But this isn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have seen the sequel to the 1986 hit film.

For the event, Kate looked stunning and elegant in a black floor-length Roland Mouret gown with a white off-the-shoulder neckline shown off by her hair loose but worn tucked behind her ears, which also let her choice of earrings shine and be seen. Prince William kept it classy with a simple black tuxedo and bow tie.

William, who was a Royal Air Force helicopter pilot himself, and Kate met with the other cast members as well, such as Miles Teller, who plays the son of Cruise’s partner Goose from the original movie.

Tom, Top Gun: Maverick star, being the gentleman he is, helped Kate as she climbed a few stairs at one moment.

But this will not be the first time the royal couple will see the movie. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were reportedly treated to a special screening of the highly anticipated sequel to Top Gun at the invitation of Cruise, who had heard that Prince William was a fan of the 1986 original.

“We have a lot in common,” Cruise said of the royal at the premiere, according to My London. “We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying.”

The premiere was hosted by Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity, with this event being the 72nd Royal Film Performance put on by the charity in its 100-year history. The charity supports hundreds of thousands of people working behind the scenes in Britain’s film and TV industry, and it was especially needed during the uncertain times that the global pandemic brought, as many technicians and craftspeople lost their livelihoods.

This hasn’t been the only event that features royals for Tom Cruise this week, as the 59-year-old movie superstar co-hosted a star-studded televised event celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The monarch, who made a surprise appearance for the performance of “A Gallop Through History,” looked delighted as she followed the acting and musical performances, as well as horse displays.

Tom has had other engagements with royals in the past, such as in 2017 when he attended a dinner with the late Prince Philip, marking the 75th Anniversary of The Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace.

In the early nineties, he mingled with Princess Diana alongside his ex-wife Nicole Kidman at the Leicester Square Empire Cinema during the premiere of the romantic drama film Far and Away. He and his ex-wife also were in attendance for Princess Diana’s funeral back in 1997.

Prince William, as president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and Kate have become regulars when it comes to big movie premiers, with the couple attending dozens of blockbuster premieres over the years, and the most recent one before this being the premiere of the newest James Bond movie and the final film in the Daniel Craig Bond Era-No Time To Die.
