The Special Connection Princess Charlotte Has With Princess Diana’s Family

Prince William and Prince Harry have talked about the importance of keeping Princess Diana’s memory alive in the past, with Prince William revealing that he and his wife Kate Middleton will often speak to their children about their ‘Granny’.

Even though it has been more than 20 years since Prince William and Prince Harry tragically lost their mother, the memory of Princess Diana is still alive and well thanks to them.

When their second child, Princess Charlotte, was born in 2015, the couple decided to honor the late Princess by giving their daughter the middle name Diana.

Her name also has a connection to Diana’s family-most notably with Charles Spencer and his youngest child.

Charles has seven children from his three marriages. From his first marriage to Victoria Lockwood he has four children-Lady Kitty, Lady Eliza, Lady Amelia and Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp.

In 2001 he got married with Caroline Freud, and the pair had two children-The Hon. Edmund Spencer and Lady Lara.

After ten years and another divorce, in 2011 the 58-year-old married Canadian philanthropist Karen Gordon, with the pair welcoming their first child together, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer, in July of 2012.

Princess Charlotte, meanwhile, was born on May 2nd 2015. Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, which has both a nod to her grandmother, Princess Diana, and her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

Charlotte, which is also considered the female diminutive of Charles, can also be looked as a nod Prince William’s father King Charles, and of course, Charles Spencer, Lady Charlotte’s father.

For Mother’s Day in the UK in 2021, Prince William and Kate gave fans a sweet look into how they honored the late Princess Diana. The official Kensington Royal Instagram shared a photograph of three homemade cards that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis made for their late grandmother.

Charlotte decorated her pink card with colorful hearts, stickers and a sweet note written by the young royal herself.

The heartwarming message read: “Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on Mother’s Day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte.”

Prince George also wrote a message on his card, writing: “Dear Granny Diana, Happy happyMothers Day. I love you very much and think of you always. Sending lots of love from George.”

The youngest of the three, Prince Louis, painted a big love heart for his grandmother and added stickers to his card, as well as managing to write his name on it.
