William Opened Up About What Really Happened At George’s First Football Match

Back in October, Prince William and Kate took George and Charlotte to their first football match. Prince George couldn’t contain his excitement as he was spotted punching the air today while enjoying his first ever Aston Villa match.

Although the result was 5-1 victory to Villa, William looked a little serious and was spotted leaning over to tell excitable George to ‘calm down’.

And now, few months later, the Prince himself has revealed the real reason.

Speaking in the BBC Documentary Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health, he said: “I wasn’t celebrating, that was the problem.

“I was sitting with the home fans. George did my bit of celebrating for me.”

While George was still a toddler, dad William said he would “love” to attend football match with his son Prince George in the near future but he will have to “pass that by the missus”.

“I don’t know, I’ll have to pass that by the missus, see how I can get away with it. At the moment, being only 22 months, it’s a little bit early.”

Prince William has been a long-time support of Aston Villa and is a regular in the stands at Villa Park. Speaking to the BBC during the 2015 FA Cup final, he said: “I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams”.

The Prince went on to explain that the reason why he chose this team. He reveals he wanted “those rollercoaster moments.”

He added: “I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa’s always had a great history.”
