Body Language Between Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Reveals Their Relationship
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Princess Kate have attended their first royal event together. The royal couples appeared on the panel for the premiere Royal Foundation Forum in London, England. This was their first royal event together since Christmas, when the family joined Queen Elizabeth in Sandringham, England, for her annual holiday celebration.
Kate and Meghan, together with William and Harry, appeared on stage together to discuss why The Royal Foundation was set up, the projects they are currently working on, and their ambitions for the years ahead.
Both sisters-in-law wore matching in blue outfits. Meghan Markle wore a Jason Wu navy dress. And Kate, she opted for a lighter maternity dress from Seraphine.
This is the second time we have seen them together. But despite that, Meghan hinted that she and Kate Middleton are getting along well in her engagement interview. She referred to the Duchess as a “wonderful” support while adjusting to royal life.
But now let’s see what does their body language say about their relationship? Judi James, a body language expert, and author analyzed their on-stage interactions.
Judi said: ‘The dynamics between Meghan and Kate threw up some fascinating body language that could even suggest or hint at some future-friendly clashes between two strong women.The pair seemed to skip any sister-in-law style tie-signs or exchanged smiles and chat.
Their chairs had been placed close to the stage, and there was some superficial mirroring, but they rarely met eye contact. Meghan, in particular, seemed all about getting her passionate messages across.’
She added: ‘Kate’s hands tended to remain folded in her lap with just some increased anxiety finger-fiddling signals when both her husband and Meghan spoke.
Her eye contact and smiles tended to be reserved for William which suggests low levels of anxiety on behalf of Meghan who was the new kid on the block but clearly full of eloquent confidence.’
‘Both women used their hair as a cut-off, hiding their faces and therefore their true emotions. William sank in his seat saying ‘oh yes’ and Meghan grabbed Harry’s arm in what looked like a gesture of restraint and support.
Two Different Personalities
“Meghan’s approach is huge ‘hit-the-ground-running’ with her upright posture and her trait of sitting with one elbow in partial splay mode, suggesting high levels of confidence and a desire to get her message across.”
“Kate’s calmer, simpler approach, sitting back in her chair with a rather demure hand clasp gave a glimpse of what being a royal must have taught her, which is that people listen anyway with no need to ramp up the passion and drama.”
Judi James thinks that both of their smiley expressions showed there was a “strong family vibe” that had formed between both royal couples.
“There seemed to be a ‘team member’ respect for one another but they also seemed to steer clear of any more overt displays of sisterly friendship,” Judi tells the Cosmopolitan UK.
Even though Meghan was focused on Harry, when Kate spoke, “Meghan sat listening intently”.
Apparently, the main bonding between Kate and Meghan was centered around “their cause plus Harry’s humor.”
“When Harry joked we saw both women share genuine matching smiles and mirror the partial cut-off gesture when their hands mimicked face-covering. The cause was clearly also important to both, although there was some interesting body language thrown up when suggestions of ‘disagreements’ were thrown up,” says Judi.
“Both women initially hid their faces behind their hair and then Meghan laughed and grabbed Harry’s arm in a rather telling gesture. William’s ‘Oh yes’ told us sparks had clearly occurred, but Kate’s demure smile wasn’t giving any clues about who had been battling with who.”
