Kate Just Channeled Princess Diana Pakistan Tour Style
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Pakistan Air Force Base Nur Khan on Monday, marking the beginning of their five-day tour of the country.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have just touched down in Pakistan and already Kate has been turning heads. The royal couple arrived at the Pakistani Air Force Base Nur Khan on Monday and officially started their five-day tour of the country.
As soon as the couple landed, Kate Middleton stole the spotlight, stepping out of the plane in a stunning aqua blue bespoke dress and matching pants. The outfit, which features a draped neckline, is inspired by the traditional shalwar kameez, a lightweight outfit that combines loose-fitting tunic tops with pants underneath.
This might look similar to royal fans, as it is very akin to the outfit that Prince Diana wore back in 1996 when the Princess visited Pakistan. The royal also went with long top over trousers with a similar shade to that of Kate for her visit.
Kate’s outfit is by Catherine Walker, one of her more favoured designers, which was also a favourite of Princess Diana. The Duchess of Cambridge finished off her look with nude heels and her signature bouncy blowout.
Susan Kelley, editor and creator of the fashion blog WhatKateWore.com, predicted that Kates choice in outfits will try to be culturally inspired during the duration of the visit.
“I think we will probably see at least one traditional shalwar kameez — the top and loose trousers look — from Kate on this trip,” Kelley, who launched her blog that follows Kate’s fashion back in 2011, told PEOPLE. “Diana wore that look multiple times in Pakistan and I think she has on occasion looked to Diana for inspiration while being careful not to copy her.”
This is a side of Kate that we haven’t seen before (although we did get to see her in a floaty Beulah dress and headscarf to visit a mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, back in 2012), Kelley emphasizes that since then Kates confidence has grown immensely.
“I think we will see her branching out more and taking more risks — she has become so much more confident in her role, she’s willing to take more risks, wear new designers and she even wore a blouse backwards and it worked!” Kelley said.
Another prediction for what Kate will be wearing during the tour from Kelley is that we will be seeing the Duchess in green more than usual, as its the customary colour of respect when visiting the country, the same Princess Diana did some 30 years ago.
“I think we’ll see the colour green incorporated [to represent the green flag of Pakistan], and I think we may see jasmine, the national flower, used somehow in her clothing choices,” said Kelley.
