Kate Roasts Marshmallows With Scouts As She Receives New Role
Kate Middleton met with Cub and Beaver Scouts in Northolt, west London, and chatted with them about all the skills they have learned through the organization, after being made its joint president.
In her most recent outing, the Duchess of Cambridge got a chance to toast marshmallows with Scouts at a socially-distanced outdoor camp, in celebration of her being handed an important new royal job.
She joined up with Cub and Beaver Scouts in Northolt, west London, after it was announced that she was going to be appointed joint president of The Scout Association, alongside the Duke of Kent. The president of the organization is the Queen.
Kate is known for her love of the outdoors, with her having volunteered with the Scouts when she was living in Anglesey.
Speaking about her new appointment, Kate said: “For many children and young people, The Scout Association plays a key role as they build relationships and develop the skills they need to succeed in later life.
“When I volunteered with the Scouts on Anglesey eight years ago, I was struck by the huge impact the organisation has on inspiring young people to support their communities and achieve their goals.
“I am delighted to be joining the Duke of Kent as joint president of the Association and look forward to working with Scouts across the country as they strive to make a positive difference to our society.”
Kate looked great in a more casual style, combining black jeans and boots with a gilet over a blue shirt for the engagement. Her visit included talking with leaders about how they are adapting since the pandemic and joining the children for some of the socially-distanced outdoor activities, asking them about their experiences with the organization and the skills they have learned there.
The Duke of Kent said: “As The Scout Association’s President since 1975, it has been my privilege to watch as they evolve with the times while honouring their proud history.
“The Scouts’ ethos of dedication, inclusivity, and lending a helping hand wherever one is needed resonates across the generations, and as such, I am delighted to welcome the Duchess of Cambridge as Joint President, and to work together to continue that legacy.”
Chief Executive of The Scout Association Matt Hyde said: “Everyone in the Scout movement is overjoyed that The Duchess of Cambridge is to become a Joint President of The Scout Association alongside The Duke of Kent.
“We are really pleased that to mark the occasion The Duchess has met and thanked Scout volunteers who have done so much to support young people during the pandemic.
“Scouting is more important than ever before, giving young people life skills, a sense of connection and belonging, and supporting communities in areas of deprivation that are disproportionately affected by COVID-19.”
