Meghan Markle Is Taking Over A Big Royal Engagement From Kate Middleton
Time goes by so fast. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their royal engagement only a few months ago, in November. Since then, the couple has made several appearances and Meghan has mastered them with ease.
When it comes to royal engagements, even though she’s still not officially a member of the royal family, the actress is taking over a major one. The bride-to-be is set to take her biggest challenge so far. Apparently, Meghan Markle will replace Kate Middleton at an event this spring, before her and Harry’s wedding in May. Moreover, Prince Harry is filling in for Prince William too.
They’re reportedly going to stepping in for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The event is due to start on April 16 and reportedly it will last for a week. So, it interferes with Kate Middleton’s due date. But, Meghan has also previously expressed a desire to learn more about the commonwealth. Considering that, it will be a perfect fit.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles are also having several royal engagements. We still don’t know whether Prince Philip will join them having in mind that he has withdrawn lately from the royal engagements.
Prime Minister Theresa May spoke of the importance in hosting this year’s event, at the previous Commonwealth Day: “As we look to create a truly global Britain, the deep partnerships that we share through a 21st century Commonwealth can help us strengthen the prosperity and security of our own citizens and those of our many friends and allies across the world.”
Meghan Markle’s attendance will serve as a proof to a major talking point.
According to an insider: “The royals pack a formidable soft power punch around the world as it is, but Meghan’s presence at the summit would propel CHOGM coverage to the front pages. Which is just what we want when projecting a positive vision of Britain overseas.”
Westminster Abbey will also host a Commonwealth Day service on 12th March, which both Harry and Markle are expected to attend.
