The Sweet Reason Why Kate Wore Pink Dress When Meeting Mila

On Thursday, Duchess Kate welcomed Mila Sneddon, a five-year-old cancer patient who featured in her Hold Still photography project, for a tea at Holyroodhouse. Taken by her mother Lynda, the photo shows Mila kissing her father through their kitchen window during lockdown last year.

Duchess Kate looked pretty in an ME+EM bubblegum pink dress for the sweetest reason: to fulfill a promise to Mila.

After it was announced that Mila’s photo was among 100 selected for Kate’s Hold Still exhibition and book, Kate and Mila had a phone call.

Mila began the call by saying: ‘Good morning, Your Royal Highness,’ prompting Kate to respond: ‘Good morning. Goodness me, you’re so polite Mila.’

Mila asked the Duchess: “Do you have a costume?”

Kate replied: “I’m not wearing a princess costume right now, I’m afraid Mila. Do you have lots of dressing-up outfits yourself?”

Mila said: “Yeah” and told the Duchess her favourite colour was pink.

Kate answered: “OK, well I have to make sure I go and try and find myself a pink dress so that hopefully, when one day hopefully, Mila we’ll get to meet and then I’ll remember to wear my pink dress for you. Would that be nice?”

Mila replied with excitement: “Yay!”

So, today Kate and Mila finally met at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. When the Duchess entered the room she said: “Hi Mila, look at you! I want to give you a big squeezy cuddle, it’s so nice to meet you in person.”

She then praised the little girl and asked her to spin to show off her beautiful matching pink dress: “I love your dress, can you do a little twirl – and your shoes.”
